  1. Is there a way to allow us (users) to start a custom set with the same exact placeholders as competitive sets, but allow us to add to the lineup or delete coin options.  for instance if I wanted to create a custom Morgan dollar set including PCGS/ANACS/ICG coins could we have access to the formatting to eliminate the adding one coin at a time to the set?

    thanks

Can PCGS coins be added to my registry - I am seeing conflicting information?  If so, how?

PCGS and other Third Party Graders can be added to CUSTOM sets only.  NGC graded coins can be added to custom and competitive sets

    Thank you for your question.

If the coin has a residue, PVC etc. it needs to be removed so that NGC can holder it. The graders can not always determine if the coin is improperly cleaned until it is conserved.

    Thank you,

    Lisa

thanks so much for your reply.  I wish to make sure I understand what you are saying.  PVC/Residue removal allows for "improper cleaned" coins to be identified?

  4. I have this page saved to come back to in case there are comments about it.  I guess I did not directly asked a question, so I am wondering if this is being discussed somewhere or is this "the price of doing business sort of situation"?  I see the situation from both viewpoints, the initial grader says this, the second grader says that, so I assume this is not the first time this happened.

    thanks again

  6. I had a standard 9-coin world submission.  I received an email stating that the coin graders identified 4 coins that could benefit from NCS.  I had two of the 4 coins conserved.  One of  the coins I had conserved graded as "details - cleaned"  Please clarify how a grader has reviewed my coin, recommended conservation on it for a coin that has already been reviewed and known to be cleaned and not told me at the time of NCS recommendation that it would not straight grade following conservation.  I do not mind having coins come back cleaned, but I do not like having recommendations for NCS on coins that are not going to grade.  thanks so much for your time.

What does the reverse look like, could that have prevented it?

I sent in some stuff to the other guys and at least 3/20 were under. The biggest issue IMO is the inconsistency. If they are tightening the standards back to what they were 20 yrs ago which seems to be the case, then some coins from 5 yrs ago are valued at multiples of a better coin because the better coin was graded in 2019 or 1999. Buy the coin, not the holder, right? Isn't the holder supposed to be so that those who aren't good at grading can rely on the experts?

This is a $12,000 coin based on TPG

This is my $200 coin based on the same TPG. It is not nearly as dark as the photos, almost pure red. There are clash marks and die cracks but where are the nicks or hits? 1919-d-obresized.thumb.jpg.97895fefc25e12b62f8aeb15e54528f1.jpg1919-d-reresized.thumb.jpg.098243bd6415edbc9ca837a9a35585c3.jpg

It's always nice to find someone to agree with posts like this, so I get the point of it.  Regarding your penny, I assume nicks you don't see overshadow the cheek bone rubs that are there? Also look at the beard hair in front of the ear, your coin has quite a bit less.  I understand your point though, I am about to receive a group of coins back from NGC that a few pieces faired worse than my hopes.

The TPGs are blinded to the individual's submitting coins and I think we sometimes lose sight of the the of amount of low grade trash they pay to get graded in the cash for the few gems.

  8. 1932 D Washington Quarter - Crunchy XF 40 ($175 Shipped with photo) -

I had this coin evaluated for NCS... no change was made.  The NCS photo below has a cert number that is actually from the submission form, but since it was not conserved, it remained in the previous holder which is 2667502-020

    returns are of course allowed

  10. Regarding ICG graded coins, you will find that the majority of coins offered will sell for a value that is a point or two lower than the encapsulated grade.  Upon crossing to NGC or PCGS, most will be in this range.  There are abundant stories of ICG and ANACS crackouts that obtain a similar grade from PCGS and NGC that they had on the coin.  But the ultra high grades of coins where the NGC/PCGS populations are zero or quite low need to give you pause.

Regarding book values/PCGS/NGC price guides stop using them as a tool to decide appropriate pricing.  Use completed auction prices.  Here is NGCs page.. https://www.ngccoin.com/auction-central/us/

Price guides try there best, but are still terrible.  within each grade there are good coins and bad coins.  So the good ones may go for higher prices and the worse coins for lower.

  11. A good percentage of the commentary on this post is people with almost no posts.  They are likely secondary accounts being used to argue the merits of NGCs decisions.  It is their registry to function how they choose.  It is up to us to decide if we choose to use it.  Being offended is fine or disappointed but given the opportunity to include them in the custom registry set is a reasonable compromise.
