I was in a bidding war on eBay for the PF-68 and finally gave up after I reached my budget. Then within a couple of hours left before the end of the auction, I get an email from eBay stating that the highest bidder dropped out and I became the highest bidder. I got it for half of my budget.

  2. Nice looking coins guys.

Well I finally got out of the estate auctions and decided to go to eBay. Thanks to a fellow forum member Mr. Smith Guesser, I won my first eBay auction. It's a really nice but newer Roosevelt dime. I'm just excited that it came in the mail today.

I also picked up 3 more Roosevelt Dime BU with some toning to them.

  3. Thanks jtryka. Nice score, I think I know we're your talking about. I haven't been downtown yet, mainly been sticking around Beaverton. I've been to a couple of shops around Portland and I had a very bad experiences with one of dealers. IDK if it's just me or the dealer, but this one made me feel very uncomfortable.

I went to one shop were they had 75% of their inventory was foreign currency(mostly Asian) and the guy didn't want to look at my coins (I usually take some with me for trade). He was first not packing heat and after I asked about the 1984 Prestige Proof set in one of the display cases, he went to the back and came out packing 2 handguns like I was gonna try to rob him or something. I don't think I'll go back to his shop again even though the prestige set he was offering was $25.00 and the coins had no visual issue from what I can see nor did the OGP had any visual issues. I really wanted it and I would have bought it but I didn't have cash on me and he didn't take plastic.

I guess I rather buy the 1984 prestige proof set from someone else for a little higher price and that won't make me feel like a criminal when I walk into their shop. I got the ASE & Morgan from Liberty Coin & Currency in Beaverton. The 64's I picked up in Hillsboro and the owners daughter gave me the buff's.

  4. And finally I also started my Half Dollar collection with a 1943 Walking Liberty Half. It's not what I'm really looking for but it's a start and maybe when I do find a much better grade then I'll replace it. Until then, when I get back home from my road trip the '43 is going into my somewhat new display case that I picked up @ auction a few weeks back.

And oh speaking of auctions I haven't had any luck getting any new lots lately but I was smart enough to do some research on a few particular MS-66 IBN slabs. After reading up on the company name and looking thru my jewelers loop I knew that they were not MS-66 and that they were indeed circulated coins by a guy who claimed to do his own grading. It pays to do a little research on something that looks to good to be true.

  5. Thanks to all for the comments and a special thanks to jcpienkus for the extra pointers. I did pick up the red book and the blue book off of amazon and they came in a couple of days ago. Anyways, picked up some more coins today from a coin shop in Grants Pass.

It may not be the best looking but I find that it's an extra start in my coin collection.

I decided to get the uncirculated mint set for my birth year-

  6. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and I'm new to the coin collecting world. So don't mind me if I seem to be such a newbie. I'll eventually get good enough to know what I'm doing and I'm hopping that I am making the right choices when it comes to purchasing without being suckered into wasting a ton of money.

So I went down to a local auction house to bid on some items that weren't relating to coin collecting (I won a baby bassinet and a vintage porcelain sign). So before I was ready to cash out they pulled out some coin lots and I decided to try my luck on some of them. I eventually won 1 lot. I was happy and the best part was that I had fun. The lot contained 9- Barber Dime and 1- Eisenhower Dime. My coins aren't the best from what I've seen here on the forum but I chosen the best looking Barber Dime and the Rosevelt Dime to show everyone. I'm sorry for the image quality as I don't have one of them fancy DSLR cameras and I used my iPhone instead.
