All of the USA/Philippines coins in this "Custom Set" have famous pedigrees. In addition each coin has spectacular eye appeal.

LOUIS E. ELIASBERG SR. COLLECTION

Louis Eliasberg (1896-1976) accomplished what no one had accomplished before or since. He built a collection of regular issue United States coins comprising all then-known dates and mint marks. He is the only person to ever build a complete set of U.S. coins. The Eliasberg collection is the finest group of United States coins ever sold at auction. This is considered the most desirable pedigree for any coin to have, as it is a virtual guarantee that a coin is choice, original and appealing. After Eliasberg's death his collection was divided between his two children. The Eliasberg (United States) gold coins were auctioned by Bowers and Ruddy in 1982. The Eliasberg (United States) Copper, Nickel, and Silver coins were auctioned by Bowers and Merena in two sales in 1996 and 1997. The Eliasberg USA/Philippines coins were auctioned by Heritage Auctions in January 2007 (Heritage Auctions - January New York Signature World Coin Auction #425).

My specimen from the Louis E. Eliasberg Sr. Collection is a 1905 Half Centavo, PR64 RD. This gorgeous coin is a flashy golden red. The 1905 Half Centavo is a PROOF ONLY ISSUE with a mintage of only 471 coins. The combined NGC/PCGS population for the 1905 Half Centavo in PF-64 RED is 2 coins with only 5 specimens graded higher.

DR. GREG PINEDA PHILIPPINE COLLECTION

Dr. Greg Pineda is one of the foremost collectors of Philippine coins and notes. Philippine expert Neil Shafer (the author of "United States Territorial Coinage For The Philippine Islands") describes the Pineda Collection as "the finest Philippine numismatic collection that has ever been accomplished". When Dr. Pineda decided that it was time to sell his collection the sale attracted Philippine collectors from around the world and was widely regarded as a once in a lifetime event. The Dr. Greg Pineda Philippine Collection was auctioned by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions on June 10, 2012 at the Memphis IPMS.

I am honored to own five gorgeous gems from the Dr. Greg Pineda Philippine Collection:

1903 Half Centavo, PR65 RB: This fabulous GEM has gorgeous multi-color toning. The obverse has red toned central features and a rainbow of iridescent gold, red, purple, peacock blue, and green in the fields. The reverse is red, green, blue and purple toned. Although this coin is technically graded as RB there is actually no brown on either the obverse or reverse, only red and beautiful multi-color toning. It is gorgeous!

1903 Half Centavo, PR66 RD: This breathtaking coin is blazing red with deep mirror surfaces. This specimen is the finest proof Half Centavo from the Dr. Greg Pineda Philippine Collection and one of the finest known examples of this coin. The combined NGC/PCGS population for this coin is 13/6.

1903 One Centavo, PR66 RD: This full blazing red superb Gem is a fabulous coin, just a wonderful beauty. With a combined NGC/PCGS population of 8/6 this specimen ranks among the finest known examples of this coin.

1905 Five Centavos, PR65: The 1905 Five Centavos is a PROOF ONLY ISSUE with a miniscule mintage of only 471 coins. Of the 471 pieces made, this has to be one of the very best. It is beautiful!

1906 Ten Centavos, PR66: The 1906 Ten Centavos is another low mintage (500) PROOF ONLY ISSUE. This exquisite specimen is evenly and beautifully blue toned on the obverse. The reverse is brilliant with lovely shades of golden toning.

BILL WEBER COLLECTION

Bill Weber was one of the foremost collectors of So-Called Dollars and one of the co-authors of the definitive So-Called Dollar reference "So-Called Dollars: An Illustrated Standard Catalog". After Mr. Weber's death his So-Called Dollar collection was auctioned by Holabird-Kagin Americana (HKA Auction #2 - December 2, 2008).

My specimen from the Bill Weber Collection is a Silver (SC$1 1920 HK-449) Wilson Dollar, struck to commemorate the opening of the Manila Mint.

Holabird-Kagin describes this specimen as "A rare spectacular uncirculated example with very original toned surfaces. Mint green hues along the edges with an even mixture of grays and tans centrally. Certainly one of the finest toned examples to exist. Reverse is unusually well struck. According to Weber's personal notes, a "Nice early strike"."
