and other housekeeping.....
Howdy Friends,
Recently added this 1976 S Eisenhower Bicentennial Silver Dollar certified by NGC in MS67 to my 20th Century Type Set. There were about 5 Million coins issued and NGC has graded a total of 1250 of them, to date 383 examples graded MS67 only 61 in MS68 with none finer. My winning bid of $26 on eBay was just over half the FMV of $47. I own a few raw proofs but this is my first mint state example and one of the rarest of my entire graded modern coin collection to date.
I have also been working on a modest short set of 1941-1945 Mercury dimes in MS66 since the beginning of the year. Started this set on impulse while trolling the auction sites for proof Roosevelt dimes I came across a Mercury dime that caught my eye so I placed a modest max bid and forgot about it. Of course, when you employ buying strategies like that you?re bound to overpay and win, which I did. They are really beautiful little gems and will be a great set to upgrade from at a more leisurely pace. Teletrade has been my source for most of the coins in the set and I?ve been able to upgrade a few slots with FB examples and when someone wasn?t looking stole a MS67, all in all a good start. The 1945 S and Micro S, the 1942 S and 1941 D slots are left to fill.
I also made progress on my 1964-1970 MS & PF Kennedy Silver set with an upgrade of the 1969 D slot to MS66. MS coins in this set are becoming quite the challenge to find in high grade gem condition so I was very pleased to acquire that example.
Photography continues to be a challenge but I continue to improve my process. Well, that?s what I?ve been up to for the last couple of months,
Keep it on the easy friends,
Larry
