lets beat them at there own game....

Hello to my friends and you "others" on this (NGC) site!

Thank you for your positive comments from my recent posts. And thank you, to you "special group of friends" who bad mouth and threaten me, about my comments!?

I will not get into the negative comments from you "special guys"... but lets get onto the item at hand!

Now I am a PCGS site member, and I know some of you hate this! But some of you may or may not acknowledge that once in a while a PCGS slabbed coin may, just may, sell for a few more bucks then a NGC slabbed coin of the same grade/quality/color etc. etc.

Oh and by the way, while at PCGS I double checked, I have looked and to you my "most special friend" who challenged me as the number of PCGS slabs I own, the PCGS site shows over 570 coins now in my sets. This was noted in my last journal.....

But the reason I am here is this dream I have.

What would happen if a couple of us collectors could get together and send in a bulk submission of coins.

My passion is Lincoln cents, but I love all coins..... ;-)

Now if a few of us could get together and send in the 100 plus coins to PCGS to grade, we could beat them at there own game.

THE GAME;

You do not know the game?

Well let me see if I can break it down for you.

Some people, aka dealers, buy lets say dozens and dozens of mint sets (at a discount cost) and pull out a handful of coins and send them in to PCGS for grading. They save money not by sending in handful's of coins, buy using this bulk grading submission thing.

Bulk grading is a special way to have coins graded....

you send in handfuls of coins of the same mint mark, date or type combination to get a big discount on the cost of grading. You also get a better grade than normal!

How, well because you can tell them not to grade the coins that are, lets say MS-65 for example.

So of the 100 or so coins you send in, if 25 of them are MS-65, you tell them not to slab those coins. Why!? Because it seems you then do not pay for them!?

Could this be true?

I have done this, but have heard so....

And PCGS then only grades the ones that are MS-66 and above!? So this means you pay less then the total cost to grade 100 coins, you only pay for the ones that are MS-66 and above? Now if you are PCGS you want to grade more of the coins as a MS-66, because you can then charge the customer more!? Still with me?

Now this is what I understand is what takes place? But it sounds to good to be true. Doesn't it?

If I send in 25 MS-65 pennies with 75 MS-66 coins, I only pay them to grade and certify the 75 coins. So the cost to me just dropped by 25%. Not to mention I am paying less then the cost to grade just one coin!?

If I was PCGS or if you were PCGS, you might, just might grade a couple of the high end MS-65's as lets say, a MS-66?

Why sure you would, hell, for sure I would!

This maybe is why you find some bulk coins that just seem not to be as good as a standard label, or aka non-bulk graded coins!

I have never done this, but if true, could you imagine you and a buddy or 2 get together and send in lets say 100 pennies. You tell them only to grade the MS-66 and above,

then.....

You save hundreds of bucks,

You get some coins that are over-graded and

Then you can sell them to pay for the good ones you want to keep for yourself!

How could you go wrong?

Some of you have asked me for my eBay ID, so you can make sure I do not buy from you, well I do not want to buy from you, those of you who use the bulk grading, and I do not want you to know who I am on eBay, so you can not hurt me and my sales on eBay.

So to the rest of you good guys, happy collecting..... and share your thoughts on collecting....
