FBL's and grading

which is better!

in response to WKF and the wisdom he is trying to share with us!

LISTEN AND LEARN! Read his Journal and then read it again and learn!

WKF,

well a few years ago I noticed in a magazine that the coins sold by a very well known dealer seem to be off. Off meaning that the coins in the NGC holders were more money the the exact same ones in the PCGS holder.

Yes we are talking about the FBL's halves, that you and I love so much.

If you bought a full set of FBL's except the 52 and 53 "s" mint coins in FBL, the NGC coins cost more than the PCGS coins in the same grades!

I still have a copy of the magazine on my book shelf. (Boy those were the days!)

After talking with a few dealers, and looking at a few coins, this is what I was told and agree with 110%.

FBL's graded by NGC are better quality coins than the PCGS ones. As far as the bell lines! AS FAR AS ONLY THE BELL LINES!!!!

BETTER STRUCK COINS WITH DEEPER AND FULL(er) BELL LINES!!!

NGC is much tuffer on bell lines than PCGS. But as far as the over all grade of the coin, PCGS is tuffer on the "OVERALL GRADE" grade.

FACT;

So a FBL coin in NGC will always cross over to a PCGS holder as a fbl coin. But a PCGS coin that is fbl by NGC standards will not always grade fbl with NGC.

ANOTHER NOT WELL KNOWN FACT;

Same with dimes as far as full split bands in Mercury and Roosevelt coins.

Not many people understand this. Not many people want to either. Oh well!?

I think older graded pcgs coins are better than the latest series of blue color label coins. They are lowering the standards of grading because of the pressure of the coin industry. Plain and simple.

It feels good to know that some people get it. Some people can understand that the difference does exist.

MANY people, YES many people believe you can just buy a holder, and it contains a coin that is a fbl or fsb or what ever. But lately you must look at the coin in the holder and judge for yourself, and not blindly except the label saying its a 65fbl or whatever!?

Why do I say this, why are you thinking I am crazy? I am not. I have proof!

Because I own over 500 PCGS coins alone. I have no idea how many NGC coins I own. At least 300 ones for sure. Some of the coins are the exact same date and mint mark and grade!

The older the holder and better the coin looks. Simple.

Did you ever buy a coin in a holder just because the holder was different? A older green label over a new blue label coin?

No, well I have.

The industry in my little opinion is changing. Coins are being graded and given a better grade than before.

hey try this, go to Heritage and look at the PCGS MS-67 red Lincoln's they have for sale tonight. May 2nd, If you look at the 4 or 5 they have, you will see, they in my opinion, just do not make the grade. they are not 67's in my eyes.

Also look at the 1909 and 1922 coins, you will see mostly new blue label coins up for sale. Not many older holder coins are up for sale! Why? Because dealers break out the old holder coins and send them in for re-grading.

Look at the 1922 no D pennies, with strong reverses and you will see coins with scratches in them, and damage, that 10 years ago would not grade out!

GET IT?

Now you can grade these coins with NGC and PCGS and get a real grade, not the details stuff. But a coin with a real full grade, but the coin is not as good as the coin from 10 years back......
