Coin Photography

As my first journal entry this will be a two subject post.

First is to introduce a new acquisition the 2009 Switzerland Shootingtaler Obwalden.

This is a 50 francs, 900/1000 silver, 25 gram, 37mm proof only coin limited to a mintage of 1,500. This example is graded by NGC as PF-69 ultra cameo.

Second is to try and improve my coin imaging. This image was taken with a macro lens in normal room lighting and color corrected to white in photo shop and cropped at 750 X 750 pixels and saved using save for web to keep the image size below 120 kb. OK that works for the gallery but not here, needs to be below 75 kb. I am considering trying some type of table top photo tent with fixed photo lighting to see if that will improve the image.

In this image the black of the photo is the mirror like finish on the coin.

The coin is also in a signature set with both front and back photos.
