Your Sales Thoughts

First thing first, I will not sell anything to anyone as a result of this posting. We don't want to revisit that issue same as a few years ago, right Amy? By the way isn't Amy the best?

Congrats to all who continue to have an outstanding opportunity to continue to build your collections in these difficult times. I find myself a touch jealous and extraordinarily sad. I was never a top 3 guy except in a few peripheral areas that really anyone could be, like Modern Proof Set 21st Century, and Proof Presidential Dollars, the top sent can be bought for around $200, big deal.

I was very proud of the inroads that I made into the Lincoln Mint Cent and Jefferson Nickel Mint Sets and the high ranking I achieved therein. It really wasn't about beating any of you, it was more pushing myself and using my fellow collectors as motivators. I was in the top ten in Lincoln Memorials, Top 25 in all Lincolns, Top 10 in all Jeffersons and competetive in almost all areas I chose to pursure.

I had not looked at my rankings over the past 6 months, more unconscious than not, because I am knew I had to be losing ground as I had not bought anything in a very long time. Last week I looked and my heart sank. There is one gentleman who was extremely rude when I entered into his realm of collecting. He even sent a nasty email to me. I responded and in a nice way expressed concern that it was that important to this gentleman that his space had been invaded by me when my intention was not to take his place but to compete with him, to push him and be pushed. He has come to be one of my finest competitors and consistently congratulated me when I scored a huge coin that pushed my lead into what appeared to be an insurmountable lead. I too congratulated him when he scored "the big one" YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I looked at this set and find myself so pitfully behind him that I can hardly even fathom catching up or even being competetive again. Very sad to me.

So you are probably asking yourself the same thing that I am right now, why the title and talk of sales when you aren't addressing either of these issues? Well, in order to perhaps purchase a few more coins, perhaps complete a few series and stay afloat financially I need to liquidate about 70% of my collection.

My question to you all is who have you had success with when selling a large amount of coins. Heritage, God love them, looked at the coins and quated me about 20% of their actual value. I have heard horrible things about all consignment agencies. Has anyone ever had a good experience with any sales/consignment agency? Your input would be much appreciated.

No, I will not sell anything to anyone through this website so don't even ask.

Thanks for your feedback though.

Chad
