BSA Coin Collecting Merit Badge

Just as my son, the extended family's only Boy Scout, started this badge (with me as the Troop Merit Badge Counselor) we found this on eBay.

I've been somewhat attracted to NGC Sample coins for quite a while now and have about a 1/2 dozen or so in my set, adding one every now and again when it strikes my fancy. I was roaming around eBay about a two weeks ago not hunting for anything in particular when I happened across this coim from SampleSlabs. I found it immediately compelling to own this coin. I waited until the last few seconds of the offering and bid, winning the coin. I thought the price rather high, but for the assumed rarity I placed on the coin I wasn't too surprised.

If we look at the Boy Scout Law, it says a Boy Scout is:

Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverant.

Now if we think about these values, at least a couple of these could be applied to coin collecting, such as Loyal and Thrifty. Being the Merit Badge Counselor, with my son starting the Merit Badge and these values in mind, it almost made the purchase of this coin a necessity for me.

Anyway, enough rambling for this entry. Enjoy the coin....
