Franklin Proof 1956 Type 1

A Proof Franklin 15 coin set is WAY overdue and a no brainer.

Two very distinct types of Proof Franklin half dollars were minted in 1956. The old die variety served well from 1950 to about 3 months into 1956. At that point, the mint refined the reverse die to a distinct and easily noticeable fuller detail, especially in the eagle's tail feathers. As a result, full cameo, higher grading 1956 Type 2 Franklins are common. The cameo'd versions of the T2 display the most striking eye appeal of any coin in the series and sell for under $1000, even in 68 Ultra Cameo. The T1, however, in 67 Cameo or better are, in fact, scarce. NGC to date has graded only 1 example in proof 68 Ultra Cameo and PCGS has graded 5 in DCAM. But, whereas PCGS provides a slot for this important variety, NGC does not. Now is the time for this glaring ommision to be corrected. NGC, let's have a 15 coin Franklin half set and let the fun begin.
