A penny saved is a penny earned.
I believe many of the phrases will be obsolete after the 2009 pennies come out.
I think it is very likely that the 2009 issue of the Lincoln cent will be the last. About the only thing you can buy with a penny is a wish in a well. Modern economics and the relative spiralling cost of copper will finally drive the cent into oblivion. What a sad day!
I have been hoarding pennies for about 10 years and have somewhere between 10000 and 12000 of them put away. I also have a nearly complete Danco album of BU Lincolns and another about half complete album of lesser specimens.
I have also been working hard within my budget (I find it expanding in the near future) on my Lincoln Registry sets. I very regretably had to sell my set of Proof Lincolns a couple of years ago. They were the #9 Registry set at the time.
All this said, I do believe the price of every Lincoln cent will go up tremendously, especially if the minting stops in 2009. Even if the cent remains and the design only changes, I think we are still looking at a dramatic increase in cost and value.
In short, get 'em while you can!
Happy Holidays!
