Bought lottery tickets lately?

I know all of you wanted to know so I found out for you. I purchased 15 SGS MS70 graded coins on Ebay, carefully took them out of their slabs, and submitted to NGC for grading. My thought was, that even if only one of these 1990's Silver Eagles came in at a 70 grade it would be worth it, right?

The results are: of 15 coins graded SGS MS70, 10 came back NGC grade of MS69, 4 came back NGC grade MS68, and one came back in a body bag for "improper cleaning". Not one graded MS70.

Now, in the big scheme of things, I paid between $15 and $20 for these coins- slightly more for the '96. I paid postage, grading fees, and postage again, and again and again, which makes this latest 69 set of Eagles almost as much as the TV set (not really, but still higher than I should have paid). These coins really are not worth the effort- hope this saves someone the trouble and expense of finding out on their own- buy the NGC graded coins- or PCGS- and you will save yourself a lot of time, hassle, and money.

By the way, I also submitted three MS70's (SGS)still in their slabs prior to this and all three came back in body bags as "damaged" and "cleaned"....I resubmitted these, out of the holders, and they were then graded MS69's???? Interesting, and lesson learned again I suppose.
