TPG's ANACS and ICG ~ SHOULD THEY BE ALLOWED?

MORE REASONS PRO AND NAY~ RESULT....

I have no objection to allowing ICG and ANACS into registry. I think it saves money, less cross-submissions. It also allows that money to be spent on more coins. This is a great thing, and surely NGC will not miss the income too much. Other reasons in support of this are that ANACS taught us to grade, their coins are generally graded accurately. ICG is too conservative, that cannot hurt the registry, either. So, I find several attractions to the idea. I would be supportive of such an administrative allowance to these two companies, that would recognize the hard work they have done, and that the market will be able to accept.

On the other hand, the registry works now, except for 50 coins that I have that could register if allowed. The registry does not need these two companies to survive. So, what costs prevent this? The loss of revenues to NGC or PCGS. The possible allowance of coins misgraded too high would be the primary reason against this change, in my book. But they are accurately graded at ICG and ANACS in my opinion.

So, I have no objection whatsoever to this inclusion, for my part. They should agree to maintain high standards.

Finally, I wish that NGC noticed BREEN errors. I collect Breens, and wish they could be registry coins. I cannot submit them, as they are not recognized at NGC, so this numismatic work done at ANACS is wasted if submitted. This would change, and I am for it simply because I want Breens recognized, not lost in a banker's vault to the collecting community, because they are mixed in with other issues. This is what makes coins unique compared to other collectibles, the errors are special, and noted as such by the greatest numismatists in US history.

Also, I think it could boost US Coin collecting worldwide, if ICG were included. Too little is being done in this age of collecting coins, to promote the hobby outside the US. ICG could be a great boon, and allow Eagles recognition around the world. I think that would be a good thing, as growth in popularity will increase competition to buy, and improve margins for dealers. This will increase number of dealers, and allow more people to find coins more easily, they will not all be buried in collections. I think it would improve our overall access to coins, and perhaps greater competition between dealers would then bring lower costs to hobbyists.
