When did the Box the mint uses to send you your coin, become so valuable?

I mean, I can kinda see it when they certify the case with the coin like they do with some morgans and Ikes, not really, I am just trying not to offend the people who claim to see the emperors clothes :0

I know this is a hobby, and as such we, and the companies that promote our hobby, can assign any value they want to anything they want. Afterall, why else would a d mintmark on a 1916 Mercury dime make it worth so much more than the identical coin without the D?

That is why, in large part, I am a typeset collector. I love coins. I love the designs. I enjoy the subtle changes in designs. But the obsession with mintmarks and now packaging are relatively new inventions of the hobby.

I, for one, am a little dismayed at the fact that so many obvious coins are missing from the typeset collections. Obvious examples are differentiating between most of the coins minted between 1965 or so and 1991 and the MAJOR design changes of 1992. Then there are all the missing penny types like the 59-82 copper the 82-91 zinc and the 92 and up zinc.

I know what it is like to lose focus. I do it all the time with my collecting. It just seems strange to see the entire numismatic industry lose focus.
