The best laid plans ...

My daughter was due the end of January. This was going to be my first Grandchild.

I had plans to look through thousands of coins as they were released from the mint in persuit of the finest set I could submit and assemble for her birthyear set. This was going to be a family affair, with everyone chipping in time to look through coins and join in the hunt.

I received a call two weeks ago that the baby was in trouble and my daughter was going into the hospital - 8 weeks early. last Monday they did an emergency C-section to try and save the baby, whose heart-rate had fallen to almost 1/3 of what it should have been.

At this point I should mention that my daughter had been told by fertiltiy experts that she could not have children.

To say that the birth of my grand-daughter last week was something special to me and my family would be an understatement. KDB ( her initials ) was almost 20 inches long and weighed in at almost 7 lbs. She did so well in the hospital that they let her go home with my daughter after only 8 days in intensive care.

So.... About that birthyear set.

Since the quiet persuit of top quality business strikes over the course of the year that they are issued has fallen by the wayside. We will happily try to put the 2006 set together as best we can.

I have been on ebay and have managed to aquire all but the 50c D, The Nevada's and the Dakota P's.

Most are still in the mail, but you can take a look at the 2006 Mint set to watch our progress in the persuit of a numismatic miracle befitting this beautiful new child.
