coin for those Presidents that were either unmarried, a widower or in the case of R.M.Johnson, not "officially" married ? Apparently, in the case of Thomas Jefferson a "Liberty" coin will be issued !

An effigy of Liberty from a circulating coin of the time contemporary to the president. E.g., for Jefferson, it's Scot's draped bust of Liberty.

According to the law, the design is supposed to represent the president which it coincides. The CCAC has decided to take the obverse of a coin that was current during the time the president served and a reverse of something of historical.

To see what they are doing for Thomas Jefferson, whose wife Martha passed before Jefferson was president, see the design here.

The exception is that for President Chester A. Arthur, who was a widower. The law says that suffragette Alice Paul will be honored on the 21st coin because she was born during the Arthur administration.

Consideration should have been given to other images - maybe a "bat" flying left or Baba Yaga on her pestle, or Medusa.

I think the Mint should have held a lottery - for five bucks you buy a chance to be the first lady of a bachelor or widowed pres. I'd have done it. insane.gif

Well, I still contend that a "First Mistress" (or second or third) coin would be a lot more interestng and attractive than the President's wives.

What about Marilyn Monroe instead of Jackie? confused-smiley-013.gif

Wasn't it alleged that Grover Cleveland has a mistress and even fathered a child with her? popcorn.gif

...and a whole bunch more including Harding, F Roosevelt and Eisenhower. Cleveland's daughter by his mistress was open fodder in the campaigns.

Time to liven up mint products....if they can’t produce new, innovative designs at least they can get on the pop culture sleaze bandwagon.

Fine, so show her as an infant.

Not alleged, Cleveland admitted to it.
