Has anyone heard of the GSA Gold Hoard ?

4 posts in this topic

Apparently this GSA hoard has been graded and Pedigreed by NGC. The gold coins are in AU circulated condition. How can a hoard that was held by the US Government be in circulated condition ? All the GSA Silver dollars were in uncirculated condition ! These coins are being touted and sold by The Treasure Hunter, Jommy Gerstel on channel 239 Direct TV.

Any opinions or historical information would be appreciated.

The GSA cilver dollars never made it into circulation stuck in a vault or something. The gold

was from the goverment buy back in the 20 or 30's when people had to turn in their gold

coins. But they would never do that now ??????

This drivel pops up about every six months. The US Government’s General Services Administration has an auction web site you can visit and bid on a wide range of surplus and confiscated property. There is no “hoard of gold coins.”

As for NGC – if they mean Numismatic Guaranty Corporation – go to their web site and look for any sign of this.

Someone tried to pump this nonsense on this forum or the PCGS boards several months ago. Try searching.

Yep, heard about it. It never existed. What they are are gold coins that were confiscated in criminal cases or from tax evasion cases etc. The GSA is in charge of selling off the governments surplus property and they have sales from time to time. Someone bought these coins at a GSA sale and convinced NGC to label them as the GSA Gold Hoard. Then they add the rediculus story trying to link it to the GSA silver dollar sale and sell them for silly money.
