Saturday Trivia: Guess this Mints Plan (That was quick)

Superintendent Thomas Annear put into motion a plan to create a unique amount of coins from a series that had been on hiatus for the past 16 years. What was this creation?

Answer:

 

In 1921 then director of the Denver Mint, Thomas Annear, embarked on a plan to engrave the first 100 Morgan Dollars to be minted by this facility. It became readily apparent that there simply was not enough time to complete the task, as engraving the arced inscription on the Morgan dollars became much more arduous task than expected. The project was stopped after only 12 coins were completed.

Whats wild is that this guy got to have his name engraved on 12 coins and now they are worth big bucks today. screwy.gif

Don't see many of these. Wonder how many are accounted for today?

I read somewhere, maybe ATS that #3 was viewed at a coin show (somewhere) and the engraver made a mistake in the spelling of RELEESED and attempted to fix the A error...the rest, who knows???

 

(also, I believe #3 was found in a dealers junk box, it is after only a lowly 1921!)
