1876 Liberty Seated Half--natural anomaly or self tooled?

Odd looking date on this 1876 LSH don't you think. What has caused this. Natural or Artificial?

I swear that's a number 9 used as a six...inverted.

It was an Ebay auction item #180099943508 which out bid me by a dollar which was more than I needed to be bidding on this coin. It both interests me and scares me at the same time. Not a good thing to allow conscious thought.

The 6 in the date does not look like the 6 should look on this coin. the inside of the loop in my opinion by what I have seen should be more round, not as slender of an oval.

here is a comparison photo with an 1876 from Heritage-close but still appears to be a bit of difference--the 8 seems odd also.

I have to ask myself why anyone would bother to alter this coin. I don't see a problem with the date.
