Silver Indian head Cent 1901 ?

The 1901 seems to have traces of Reeding around the edge

No:1 3.2g

No:2 4.7g

No:3 2.7g

 

I have a book on Foreign coins minted in the usa ? could a foreign planchet have been used ! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

It doesn't look to be a genuine silver cent. Rather, it appears to have been plated after it left the Mint and has some crude looking partial reeding added. Essentially, I would guess it is a damaged, VG Indian Head cent.

At 2.7 g, it couldn't be a plated regular cent. That would be heavier, not lighter. It could certainly be struck on a foreign planchet. It happens all the time, but I couldn't even begin to tell you what planchet or where from. It's really cool, though.
