What happens to all those hoarded cents?

3 posts in this topic

I read an interesting article in today's (1/7) New York Times. A couple in an out of the way spot of California glued one million cents to every surface of the bar they own. That includes floors, walls, pool table and, of course, the bar itself.

It would be a shame to discover a rare date! They were glued to surfaces using Elmer's glue. There are estimated to be about 200,000 on the floor. That can't be good for the condition of the cents!

Imagine he wanted an old feel to the bar and they were all IHCs and wheats! 893whatthe.gif

Does it say where the bar is? Might be fun to visit and get a few pics.

The bar is in McKittrick. That is an almost ghost town west of Bakersfield (off Rt. 33) in oil country. There were wheaties in the photos. They say the oldest is an 1883 IHC. The owner didn't bother looking at the cents, after a while they were all the same to him.
