Cherry Picking is where a coin buyer picks out a coin that may be correctly priced or may not be. The coin could be correctly priced for the grade but the overdate, double die, Light motto, etc could have been missed, thus making the coin much more valuable. You can also cherry pick from a dealers junk box.

 

Another way to put it is When a collectors knowledge exceeds the dealer or seller.

 

For you to cherry pick and not rip off, means the other person has knowledge as well.
