Colorful 1811 Bust Half - improving photos

8 posts in this topic

Here's an 1811 Bust half I got from Steve Estes. I've had a really hard time photographing it, but trying it again with distant lighting (a standup lamp about 5 feet away), I finally got this, which is actually truer to life (whatever that means) than the earlier photos.

Great coin from a dealer which I have also purchased some nice pieces. I see some nice luster in your top pictures.

The red and gold color remind me of a long time in envelope storage. I have an 1861 Seated Half from Steve that looks a lot like your two bottom pictures in color.

Is the grade AU55?

This is a picture of my 1861 reverse. Note the similarities.

TJ, that's a very nice reverse. How about showing the other side, I'd like to see it.

James, its graded by NGC as an AU50.

You know how some coins look edible? This is one of those coins that look good enough to eat. It has something to do with the way is wore. I like that. Am I crazy?

P.S.

Don't answer that.

Here's the obverse of the 1861, Mike. I think your 1811 shows more luster and color from the pictures. The toning pattern on both, however, is similar.
