Coin color on message boards 0

I've noticed an upturn in the number of comments/requests relating to the color of coins posted on message boards. Members are cautioned that reasonably reliable coin color can be reproduced only if the item was photographed on a standard 18% gray background. The background on your screen also has to be matched to the 18% card in both color and density. Even in this circumstance, the coin image might be too dark or too light due to poor lighting.

Therefore - do not base a decision entirely on the screen color of a coin.

I think the worst is when for some reason a blue filter is used and the coins look blue.   

Don't have a clue then as to what the colour is even remotely supposed to be.

Very seldom is a blue filter actually used. What you are seeing is almost ALWAYS the result of photographing a copper or gold coin with auto white balance turned on. By the way, I STRONGLY AGREE with every word of @RWB’s post above.

It's probably not a filter - it's from the camera trying to make the entire frame  "average" neutral gray.
