Busthead
Hello, I recently found my grandfather's coin collection and would like to know if this coin is real. The $8.50 price would have been from approximately 30 years ago.
Sandon
I'm not an expert on ancient coinage, and hopefully some of the members who are more knowledgeable in this area will respond. However, the coppery color and grainy surfaces of this piece are good indicators that it is one of multitudes of replicas (fakes) made for sale as inexpensive souvenirs. A genuine tetradrachm of Alexander the Great would have sold for a lot more than $8.50 even thirty years ago.
