Jim P McG
Hello all, Thank you in advance for any advice on the subject coin. Is this a 1965-P Washington Quarter FS101 DDO? I see doubling in the left side of Washington’s face, the date and in “WE TRUST”. I don’t really see doubling in “LIBERTY”. If yes, would it be worth it to submit the coin for official grading? Thank you Jim Edited May 11 by Jim P McG Clarity
Coinbuf
Does not appear to match up with the photos for fs-101 to me.
Greenstang
That is common Machine Doubling, one of the worthless types of doubling. Sandon
Sandon
Please see the following links to learn how to distinguish between coins struck from doubled dies, which may be worth a premium, and coins exhibiting strike doubling, a.k.a. machine or mechanical doubling and other forms of doubling which are of no value: Double Dies vs. Machine Doubling | NGC (ngccoin.com) https://www.doubleddie.com/144801.html and links at the bottom of the page. Jim P McG
Thanks everyone for taking the time to look at the coin and providing comments. The verdict is pretty definitive! Sandon, thanks for the link. I especially liked the example of the coin with a doubled die AND machine doubling in the date. It clearly shows the difference of the two types of doublings on a single specimen, eliminating any ambiguity. Thanks again everyone.
