I purchased an 1937 capped bust half dollar coin at a coin show in TN several years ago. Nice coun. Toning is great.

The reverse " 50 C.". Instead of " Fifty cents" .

Also has " E Pluribus Unum" ribbon .

Is it real or a rare coin???

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Two questions:

Is the edge reeded or lettered or something else?

Did you buy this coin as a curiosity, since you were not sure about the authenticity?

That's a contemporaneous counterfeit, meaning that it was made of base metal while coins of that type were still circulating, and it was intended to pass at face value. There are hundreds of varieties of these, including ones having too late a date for the lettered edge type, as with your coin. These are very popular to collect, and there's even a book by Keith Davignon that lists and illustrates the known varieties.

Davignon lists this one as "1837 2/B." It is one of 11 listed varieties dated 1837.The reverse die was also used to make fakes dated 1833, 1836, and 1838.
