Jefferson Nickle Quest regarding full steps 1 1

First i had a nice 1971 Jefferson that has great detail in the steps. Then I have a 1963 Proof Cameo that has steps not quite as nice. Just wondering if this is common. Would expect the Proof coin to have full steps but not as nice as the 1971.

A proof coin is usually struck at above normal pressure, or, for modern proofs after 1969, struck twice in a special press. Post 1968 proofs should have better detail than circulation coins, meaning a greater proportion of "full step" Jefferson nickels.

Proofs typically have full steps so there is nothing special about FS on steps.  Business strikes are less likely to be found with full steps, some years are basically unknown with full steps.  Your 71 is nice but not full steps.

Your 1971 coin is very close to a five step coin except that there is a disruption under the third pillar, the sixth step is totally blended under the third pillar.   So unfortunately I would not classify it as either a 5 FS (or just known as FS under the PCGS grading requirement) or a 6 FS coin, close but no cigar.
