Defect or dmg? Looking for assistance 0

 New to the coin world in all aspects but I found this 2001 rhode island quarter with this ring around Washington and I wanted to know if this is a defect or damaged bc of its perfect spacing from the edge all the way around where the spots are?

Damage. If the coin had collectible value, this damage would decrease it.

I noticed this exact same ring on several of my quarters after using the coin counter machine I have. So that's what I attributed it to.

Could be from a vending machine, coin wrapping/counting machine etc. but it was not done during the striking of the coin.      It is just some form of machine damage.

Yep, I believe this would get a "counting machine damage" disclaimer on a slab.
