Is this a small crown?

It is pretty worn and hard to tell but I would have to say it is the Large Crown variety.

Even in that condition it would be worth about $5.00 -$10.00

I'd also say it's the large crown. You can just make out the little indentation on the right side's velvet (or whatever the fabric is) that is characteristic of the large. My old but helpful Charlton puts VG-8 at $25, this is well below that in grade, so I'd put its value near Stang's low end of range.

Whenever I read posts like this, I am reminded of how much I don't know. This sounds like an interesting subject to pursue, though. Note to self: Research early 20th century Canadian quarter varieties.

Just Bob-

There are only a couple of varieties in the King Edward series but if you go back to the Queen Victoria series , there are many varieties. I think 1886 has 7 varieties of it's own.
