RJoe
Is it a waste of time to look at wheat pennies this old and worn. Are they worthless?
Kirt
No, it's not worthless. However, if you are interested only from the perspective of financial gain, there are more lucrative avenues to explore. It's not worthless because wheat cents are readily available, usually worth just above face even when moderately circulated, and have a wealth of documentation on varieties. You learn grading, how to look for genuine error coins, and die marriages -- all at far less cost than Morgans. There are quite a few varieties that command decent money even when worn. Unfortunately, this coin doesn't appear to be one - just a circulated 1958 with some corrosion setting in. I ditch ones exhibiting corrosion as that's going to continue to progress.
