Ringooo
Hello everyone, I recently was gifted my grandpa’s coin collection. I’ve been cataloging it for the past two day. I got to a bottom of a box and found this random quarter in a bag. Was reaching out to see what is happening with this quarter was done manually or a big error. heavily scratched looking. Smoothed outside. Look like a ring. No date available, but can tell Washington. Has the weight of a silver quarter and not a regular quarter. any help would be great
Coinbuf
That is not a mint error, I cannot say with certainty how it came to look like that but it didn't happen during the minting process.
Ringooo
Thank you for your help Coinbuf! I figured it was probably just someone who was bored turning a quarter into a neat ring. When I googled ‘rounded edge quarter coin’ there were people selling rings they made from quarters.
Just Bob
Do a search for "dryer coin." You will find pictures of coins that look similar to yours.
kbbpll
I think someone was spooning it into an actual ring and gave up.
