Marcus509
I’m a younger coin collector and don’t know much about Morgan’s. I was wondering about the rim of the coin on the reverse. On the left starting by the top of the wing going down to the N on the one the rim of the coin seems to be raised. Is this just a common min error? I would love you feedback it would be much appreciated!
Member: Seasoned Veteran DWLange Posted February 4, 2020 Member: Seasoned Veteran Share Posted February 4, 2020 That occurs when the obverse and reverse die are not perfectly centered on the same axis. Some metal got squeezed into a slight gap that resulted between the reverse die and the collar. The Mint calls this "finning," while the hobby calls it "wire rim." It's interesting but does not qualify as a mint error, since this sort of thing happens frequently.
