Went to the bank to grab a box of pennies and the teller or head teller told me that when the mint gets coins back , old ones that is . They are destroyed and new ones made . Is this true ? Just curious as of lately been getting boxes of brand new 2019 pennies . When a week ago i was getting mix new and old . Or its just luck of the draw and i got what i didn't want .

The Mint rarely if ever get coins back (Other than defective collector issues tha they sell on their website)  The mint makes the coins and they get delivered to the Federal Reserve and then they are their problem.  Now 19th century, the Treasury did get lots of older and uncurrent coins, but even then usually the only once melted down and destroyed were those worn to below standard weight.
