Gold colored quarters?

4 posts in this topic

Hi there, I am looking for an opinion on these coins please. I came across a coin collection of my Grandmothers and noticed these 2 quarters in the middle are odd. (The two on the outside are just for comparison) I tried to look it up and there was some suggestion that they could be gold plated? One is very gold while the other (right middle) has some silver hues with it.

Any expertise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum-

Are you selling these? This is the forum for buying and selling coins.

To answer your question, they have been plated. Not unusual as it is done after the coins leave the mint, usually for promotional items. It does nothing to add to the value of the coins. Worth 25 cents each.

Sorry, it appears I posted this in the wrong thread. When you say they have been plated, would it be safe to say they are not plated with real gold? I guess that makes sense. They do appear to be slightly thicker than a regular quarter.

They may very well be plated with real gold. Littleton Coin,  the Home Shopping Network,  and even Walmart sell different sets of gold plated quarters. Just another way to take some person's money.
