"D.P." is not listed in the standard reference Merchant and Privately Countermarked Coins by Gregory G. Brunk, so your best chance of finding it would be to obtain a reference to jewelers' hallmarks. That's what the punch appears to be.

It's unfortunate that this act was performed on what appears to be a genuine 1856 Eagle Cent.
