Old Coin with no comps..

2 posts in this topic

So a few years ago i bought a tin with old foreign coins.  In there was an old 1 penny Maundy coin. Great Britain,  from

1746.  Nice shape so i sent it in.  Come to find out its an over-date 1746 / 5.  It was graded MS65 and i was

so happy !  Then i tried to market it, and found out that it’s not popular after all.. Am i missing something ?

272 years old, MS65, and an error to boot.. any suggestions ?

If you found that in a tin of old coins, that is a pickup for the record books.

But...

Apparently, no one else thinks it is worth $11,000. Don't get me wrong- it is a great looking coin, and obviously very rare, actually unique at the present time, in this condition, but it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and evidently, no one is willing to pay that much. My only suggestions would be to actively seek out collectors of Maundy coinage and offer it to them directly, or lower the price. Or both.

Good luck.
