1883 Bolivia 2 Centavos KM168-E4

In the Heritage FUN auction this january, I maged to pick up a nice pair of essai coins that had been grouped for auction. One had been certified by NGC (an 1889 Essai Cenral America Union 2 centavos PF64 NGC - no Krauss number), but the other (the 1883 Bolivia 2 Centavos KM168-E4) was raw.

 

The Bolivia piece looked like it was covered in crud. So, somewhat reluctantly, I sent the coin to NCS for conservation, then on to NGC for grading. The results were remarkable. NCS restored not only the color but also the mirrors of the coin. It's a fairly dramatic coin - just a bit smaller than a half dollar and fairly high relief. Here are some before and after photos.
