I didn't see a Chat Board link to discuss W.K.F.'s recent journal regarding the potential composition change in the 5-cent piece, so I am posting a journal.

 

He makes several references to the 75% copper content of the 5-cent piece as a primary reason for starting to hoard/accumulate bulk rolls, but a check on bullion prices showed that copper is trading today at $3.23/pound while nickel (25% of coin) is trading at $6.42/pound. Based on current bullion commodity pricing, approximately 60% of the bullion value of the 5-cent is based on copper, while the remaining 40% is based on nickel.

 

My point is: When evaluating the bullion value of the nickel (5-cent piece), don't forget to include the value of the nickel (metal).
