So i came across this along with some other coins i will be posting tonight in the GTG forum.

Basically i am wondering if anyone can form an opinion as to which mint mark this is. i know that the 16-D has different positions and stuff...

I know its really worn down, i am hoping there may be enough evidence to point to one direction or another............

I compared it to a bunch of 16-S's and i personally don't see them as the same. I am hoping it may be the top of a D....i know its a LONGSHOT!!!........

Thanks in advance

Nick

Ha! Thanks johncurlis!!

That would be a heck of a find considering i found it, along with others, inside an old ladies nightstand. She had it out on the side of the road...She gave me the stand for $10. I didnt find the coins until a week later. That is a 100% completely true story! no BS

I promised my wife that if i sell any of the coins i will go back and give her some more money..

Some of the others......

If I'm not mistaken, all 1916-D mercury dimes have some die rotation (some very slight rotation, some up to 20 deg.). Can you check and tell us if yours is rotated this way? Easiest way to check, hold the coin between your thumb and finger, obverse facing you, straight as possible, then spin it with your other finger and see if the reverse is perfectly aligned or not.
