Re 1934 China Junk Dollar Variety

7 posts in this topic

I have recently submitted a Chinese Junk Dollar dated 1934 to NGC for grading. On the submission form i had written that it was a 6 line variety, this variety has been recognised by PCGS and represents less than 1 percent of the total mintage of this coin. NGC has posted the submissions i sent online but has not mentioned that the 6 line variety in their description, will they see this when grading,do they recognise this variety like PCGS does?

No replies and have also asked the experts the same question in the NGC appropriate forum about a week ago and have had no response there either. I wonder if they are scratching their heads or just dont want to recognise the variety?

I've never heard of a "six line" variety on this coin. Do you have pictures showing the difference?

(And 1% of the total mintage would still be over 1.5 million coins)

The only Chinese circulation issue coin that NGC lists as being a recognized variety is this one -

http://www.ngccoin.com/vp-sub-category.aspx?subid=68&category=china&cointype=circulation-issue

I have a feeling that it will not be designated.

I think it's a good practice to always check the NGC website or call before submitting for a variety attribution....just to be sure.

PCGS does recognise the variety which is 6 lines or ropes between the two sails Also

when i mentioned 1 % of the mintage i meant to say 1% of the graded population

I do not have a picture but am happy to post a pic when my coin is returned to Australia

You are probably correct Augusto,i will be sending my coins to PCGS in future if they do not have the foresight to recognise an important tru variation of this coin when it is clearlly recognised by the opposition
