Die crack on wheat cent?

16 posts in this topic

I bought a lot of IHC and the seller included a couple of bonus coins including this coin marked as a die crack error coin. I know nothing about error coins. Can you see the die crack? I heard it is above the date.

Best I can do with the picture without having a size in the gigabytes that will take a while to scan and load. This is in old flip though. The seller stated that he got his coins from his grandfather 20 years ago.

I don't know. The guy I bought the lot from included this as a bonus. It was given to him by his grandfather, an old collector. He marked the 2x2 as a "die crack" and it had a price marked of $10. I am not an error collector either so I can't really say if it is an error coin or not.

I see nothing. Maybe if you take it out of the cardboard flip, put some light on it, and focus we might be able to say better.

Regardless, it is not likely worth much. Something less than a dollar.

Lance.

It looks more like a die gouge to me. Is it raised? Die cracks don't usually start in the middle of "nowhere". You will usually see them begin on the edge of a device or the rim. In any case, given the condition, I see no premium associated with this coin unless his grandmother was Whistler's Mother.
