1872 Two Cent Piece

I would say that you estimate of AU-58 to MS-61 is accurate so far as the level of wear goes. The number marks on the piece would limit it to MS-60 at best by my grading standards, but the services seldom assign the MS-60 grade.

The question is whether the coin is Mint State or Proof. The Mint State 1872 Two Cent pieces are much scarcer, and sometimes it is tough to tell if it is a Proof or not because the Proof coins were often carelessly made during this period. Going by the picture, I can't see any reason why it would not get a grade.

I was basing my grade on the slight rubbing on top part of shield, this is they wear first and the numerous contact marks on reverse. Sold for low MS dollars on EBay, too much for me for unslabbed copper I can't see, especially from that seller.
