Gulliver has nothing over this coin...

 

After 3 full weeks today is the day I will finally receive the MS65 1860 3 cent silver I won at session 1 of the ANA show. This session was held Sat Aug 3 (pre-show) from Stacks Bowers, As the final auction session was Aug 14 (after the show ended) no invoicing occured until the 16th as it is their policy to close out all auction sessions before billing ( the policy is clearly stated on the site). I quickly made payment the 17th. At that point I kept checking the website for order status, as my lot showed as paid, not shipped. Then Thursday nite finally some logistical activity as the status went to shipped and a USPS tracking number was made available. I really love this feature as you can know with certainty the date of delivery and be home as it will require signature ( I hate going to the PO for this with my little slip).

This got me to thinking how many miles my 3 cent has recently flown and how long this would have taken in 1860. Bowers offices are in both Calif & NH, so the seller could have sent to either for initial cataloging ( I think). Assume 750 miles to initial grading, 1500 miles( avg guess) from Calif or NH to ANA, 3000 back to Calif from ANA for shipping, and another 3000 from Calif to NJ , so about 8,250 give or take 500 miles or so , not sure the how long in 1860 but quite some time! Wow if could get frequent flyer miles with the coin I would have a deal !!! See attached. Cheers, RichH !!
