New Pattern added to collection

The Eagle has finally landed...

It has been a long time coming but I finally added an example of the small flying eagle 1 cent 1858 transitional design. I first became aware of the pattern in 1993 from Rick Snow's Flying Eagle and Indian Cent research masterpiece. There are 3 main patterns of the small eagle to collect ( some critics of the design say it looks more like a quail, or even a "sick" eagle falling from the sky). This one is Judd 204, with a "harp" or Ornamented shield combined with oak wreath reverse. Anyway it is a highly collected Pattern with Rarity 5 per Pollock, i.e. 31-75 pieces extant. This speciman is a CAC , Eagle Eye certified MS-63 from PCGS. Cheers !

Interesting pattern but not very flatering to our national bird.

Can you imagine how it would have looked if Benjamin Franklin had his way and the turkey was our national bird?
