Four Coins Hit the Mailbox Today

6 posts in this topic

it was stuffed with coins.

Howdy Friends,

I love it when I get home from work and the mailbox is stuffed with coins! I can't wait to start taking photos and putting together a write up for the journals. I acquired the following coins over the last couple of weeks and they all hit at the same time, sweet!

First is a 2012 S Star Spangled Banner graded by NGC in PF70UC which is the first addition to my Modern Commemorative Proof Set in many months and a coin I have wanted since NAS Fallon Firefighter, I believe it was, posted his example awhile back. Next is another addition to my Proof Sets, a 1953 Lincoln Wheat Cent graded PF67RD by NGC which was a surprise win at $51.00 on ebay. With FMV being $120.00 and retail prices much higher, I was very happy to acquire it at what I felt was a good price. Lastly, two new Kennedy proofs the 1976 S Silver PF69UC Bicentennial and a 2012 S Clad PF70UC Early Releases both graded by NGC.

Another recent accomplishment was completing my 1955 Proof Set with the last addition in the mail as we speak, a PF68 Jefferson Nickel. The set also consists of a PF67RD Lincoln Wheat Cent, PF68 Roosevelt Dime, PF68 Washington Quarter and PF67 Franklin Half Dollar all examples graded by NGC. For the last few years I have been consumed with collecting half dollars and dimes from the 1941-1970 era. Since this amounted to a head start in proof sets I decided to start a run from 1953-1964. So far I have completed two sets, the 1955 and 1964 and I only need a Lincoln Wheat Cent to complete the 1958 set. These proof sets are giving me the opportunity to collect cents and nickels which I haven't collected before and after picking up a few Wheat Cents I have to say I like them the most next to the half's of course.

Here is a composite of the 1953 PF67RD Lincoln Wheat Cent for your viewing pleasure.

Keep it on the easy friends and Happy 4th of July to you all!

Hey Merlin....nice group of coins you picked up there. It also has been a few months since I have added to my Modern Comms. The Star Spangled Banner was the last one I added back in the beginning of April.

I have been saving up for an MS70 2006 W SAE Anniversay to complete that 3 coin set. Retail is going way more then the FMV :pullhair:

Hey mkman! I did have a hard time trying to get a decent photo of that coin and it is very nice in hand and thanks Jeffery, I have a 2006 Anniversary Set in 69 that are some of my most prized coins, 70's are like a dream though, I'll be looking for the great photo when you get that puppy!

Take care friends

The Star Spangled Banner is so beautiful that it caused me to start collecting the mocoms in proof. I haven't picked that one up yet but I will, oh yes I will!!!
