Collecting California Gold Rush medals can be an interesting and enjoyable pasttime

 

I just came across a nice gilt medal which celebrates the Semi-Centennial of the California Gold Rush (1848-1898). The obverse of the medal depicts a 49'er using a "rocker" to search for gold. The reverse shows a covered wagon pulled by a team of oxen. I have not seen one of this type before. Thought folks who have an interest in the California Gold Rush might enjoy this piece. Later.
