It's not what you do, it's who you are.

Does your reason for collecting ever really change from when you started? I was 7 yrs. old, what did I really know about coins? What compelled me to want every wheat penny I could my hands on? Why did I tell my grandma and my aunts to buy me coins for Chtistmes presents? I don't know the answers to these questions and probaly never will. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a banker so I could go thru every roll of coins that came into the bank, then as I got older I wanted to be an accountant because I loved being around money. Maybe that's part of the reason I fell in love with coins. How many people on here go out of their way to get a valuable coin but know in the long run they will never see any of the monetary gain? Mine will be left for my son to do with as he see's fit. I doubled my money spent on some modern issue gold coins, what did I do with it? I spent almost all of it on other coins because I figured I spent it the first time on coins. It's a vicious cycle that I think only true collectors experience. Do you ever have enough? Can you ever stop? Would you start over like I had too? If you answered no,no,yes, then coin collector isn't what you do, it's who you are!!

MAILMAN, Couldn't have said it better if I tried for a million years. I have even taken other collectibles like comics and military helmets and turned them around to buy more coins. I got the Numismatic "Jones" and I ain't going to ever change.

Malcolm

I got my first coin when I was 5. It was an Indian Head cent embeded into an arrowhead necklace. After that, I wanted to see more Indian Head cents. I also remember my pap getting bank bags of Morgan Dollars and my grandma keeping all her Silver Certificates. I started to collect more and more coins as I got older. While my friends had awesome football card collections, I had my coins. I was the ONLY kid interested in coins. ha ha ha. I would say now that my collection would blows theirs out of the water. I do have football cards.. probably around 6000 Steelers cards from 1953-present.

As for the wife, I got her hooked!! He is a coin addict like me now. mission complete.
