PVC coin fresh

2 posts in this topic

Freshly bodybagged coin arrived home today with PVC written on the slip. No NCS info in the box, only info on coins being designated stars and plus sign.

Can you conserve a coin with PVC then grade it? Does the new holder, post-conservation designate that it has been conserved or is it in a regular NGC holder? ThankU.

We usually can remove PVC residue from the surface of a coin. Assuming that the PVC has not corroded the surface of the coin and that there is not a further irreversible surface problem such as improper cleaning, the coin should grade with NGC with standard grading. If there is an additional irreversible surface problem, the coin will be encapsulated with a details grade once the PVC residue has been removed.
