There are several different types - large date and small date and zinc and copper. To which are you referring as Type 1 and Type 2 (terms not used on the 1982 cent)?

 

Zinc vs. copper is very easy to tell, just weigh them.

there a nice little set to have around. i think theres like 7 or 8 coins in the set and are relativily inexpensive. happy hunting :) ( nice web site to physics )
